“
Chang has recruited an army of preteen security interns while moonlighting at a local bar mitzvah. They were later nicknamed the "Changlourious Basterds" like "Inglourious Basterds" but with "Chang" instead of "In". I don't get it either.

— Narrator, "Pillows and Blankets".

Recruitment drive
Chang's first attempt at recruitment.
After becoming the sole security guard of Greendale Community College, Sgt. Ben Chang needed more personnel to assist him. He recruited a group of kids to form his security force. They are given the nickname "The Changlourious Basterds" after the Quentin Tarantino movie "Inglourious Basterds". Under Chang's leadership, they soon establish themselves as a force to be reckoned with. They first appear in the Season Three episode "Contemporary Impressionists".

Group history[]

In the study groups third year at Greendale, Dean Pelton admonished his head of campus security at the time Ben Chang for his actions involving the use of a tranquilizer gun. Chang argued he had to resort to such extreme measures because he was by himself. Pelton told him to recruit volunteers from the student body but nobody was interested. He stumbled upon a solution to his problem when his brother Rabbi Chang arranged for him to provide security for a Bar Mitzvah. He recruited children attending the party and deputized them back at school in the cafeteria ("Contemporary Impressionists"). They would eventually become known as the "Changlourious Basterds", a name they earned while participating in The Pillows and Blankets War.

Recruitment drive.
Troy asked for Chang and his recruits to lend assistance to his efforts. They become a terrifying threat on the battlefield, raiding Pillow Town and maliciously attacking its residents. They even start collecting mattress tags as trophies and wearing them as necklaces as reminders of their "kills." However, they were stymied when they encountered Abed's weapon of last resort codenamed "Pillow Man". Overwhelmed by its power, they retreated but later got their revenge in a final showdown between the forts on the cafeteria. The Basterds used teamwork and took out their hated rival with extreme force ("Pillows and Blankets"). Soon after, Chang began demanding more authoritative power from Dean Pelton but was at first refused.

Pelton changed his mind after students in the cafeteria attending Star-Burns memorial service started to riot. Once Pelton signed off on Chang using extreme measures to stop the riot, he mobilized the Changlourious Basterds. Equipped with riot gear they went to the cafeteria and assaulted the students with pepper spray exacerbating the riot they were called in to stop. Afterwards, the Greendale school board demanded to know who was responsible. Two of the Changlourious Basterds overheard the study group and Dean Pelton conspiring to pin the blame on their boss. They told Chang who went to Dean Pelton's office and took him out with his tranquilizer gun. Using a "Doppel-Deaner" to replace Pelton, Chang had the school board blame the study group for the riot. With them out of the way, Chang and his Changlourious Basterds took over the school ("Course Listing Unavailable").
