I don't know about you but I know I ended up here because things weren't so great out there.
Troy to Jeff, "Football, Feminism and You".

Jeff and Troy 2
Jeff Winger and Troy Barnes
portrayed by Joel McHale and Donald Glover.
Jeff and Troy were two of the most physical and athletic members of the study group who would occasionally compete in various sporting contests. In their first years together at school Jeff established himself as a leader and a popular figure at Greendale. This would at times bother Troy as he himself was once a star quarterback, homecoming king and B.M.O.C. at Riverside High School. Although Troy enjoyed his juvenile antics with Abed he longed to be considered more of an adult. Because of this Troy looked up to Jeff and admired his seemingly more mature and cool persona. At different times they each pursued a romantic relationship with Britta Perry but in both cases it didn't work out. In their fifth year at school, Troy left Greendale to embark on a potentially financially rewarding adventure. Jeff admitted that by doing this Troy had become much cooler than he was. Jeff is portrayed by Joel McHale and Troy is portrayed by Donald Glover.

–Troy and Jeff, "Comparative Religion".

School year synopsis

In the 2009-2010 semester at Greendale disbarred attorney Jeff Winger met recent high school graduate Troy Barnes through Abed Nadir. Troy had been invited by Abed to the library along with a few other classmates to a Spanish study group Jeff had formed. Unbeknownst to him Jeff had formed a fake group just to woo Britta Perry, one of the students in attendance. When Jeff's ruse is discovered he is kicked out but afterwards Troy encounters him outside the building. They bonded when Troy was impressed with his opinion on whether or not he should continue to wear his varsity jacket. Troy and the other members of the group take pity on Jeff and convince Britta to let him rejoin them. After the Dean puts Jeff on the college recruiting posters, Jeff convinces Troy to play football for Greendale in order for the posters not to be used. This causes a conflict with Annie which makes Jeff feel guilty. He tries to get Troy to quit football at a pep rally but Troy is OK playing because the standards at Greendale are so low there is no pressure on him. Troy passes wisdom to Jeff by saying he should accept he is at Greendale and relax. Troy gets Jeff to help a tripping Pierce at the study group's first Halloween party and before Christmas, helps Jeff train to fight the school bully. Jeff (and Britta) interfere in Annie's relationship with Vaughn Miller by telling Troy things about Annie to make him interested in her.

On Troy's 21 birthday, Jeff arranges for everyone to go to a bar and Jeff inadvertently shows Troy that he is a man now. Troy gets to drive Jeff's Lexus. After Abed reveals that Jeff and Britta have been hooking up all semester, Troy is angry at Jeff for putting his needs before the group's well-being. Season Four[]

I wish I had the courage to commit to a bit like you "Abed"...or to a relationship like Troy. Committing is hard because we're all scared of what happens when we find out we commited to the wrong thing but there's no shame in what Troy's done. He put himself out there and he really tried and that proves he cares. That said, and as hard as it may seem, right now Troy needs to show he cares. He needs to put himself out there and own how he feels. That proves he's a man.

–Jeff to Troy (role playing as Abed), "Basic Human Anatomy".

School year synopsis

–Troy and Jeff saying goodbye to each other, "Geothermal Escapism".

School year synopsis

Months after his graduation Jeff had an unexpected reunion with Troy and the study group at Greendale. Jeff accepted a job offer from Dean Pelton and was hired as a Law professor while Troy and the others re-enrolled in order to better themselves. Not long into his new job Jeff found himself in the middle of a grading scandal involving the teaching staff. This ignited a protest by the students led by Annie who was joined by both Britta and Troy. To resolve the conflict Jeff, Troy and the remaining study group members joined a special oversight group made up of teachers and students called the "Save Greendale Committee". Its purpose was to improve campus life and one of it's first problems was the return of a serial prankster who terrorized the school. Troy was one of the victims who was maliciously assaulted which spurred on Jeff and Annie to investigate. The search for the culprit came to an abrupt end when everyone learned about Pierce's death. According to his will Troy would receive Pierce's fortune if he successfully sailed around the world. Jeff protested and offered to help legally fight the stipulation but Troy declined and accepted the challenge. Abed organized a campus wide game of "Hot Lava" to honor Troy on his last day before he shipped out. Jeff participated in the event and after it concluded he saw Troy off with the rest of their old study group. Troy told Jeff he considered him the coolest guy he ever met but Jeff argued that by going on the sailing adventure he was becoming far cooler. Jeff and the others waved goodbye to Troy as he left Greendale with his idol LeVar Burton on a trailer hitched boat.
