“
Baby, I compare you to a kiss from a rose on the gray!
”
Jeff and Dean Pelton

Pelton winks
Now that your rose in bloom
the light hits the gloom on the gray!
In the study group's third year at Greendale, Dean Pelton blackmailed Jeff into spending a day with him at the mall. After having lunch together at "Señor Kevin's", he made Jeff karaoke with him. The song he chose was Seal's hit single "Kiss From A Rose". At the same time, Troy and Abed were at their home beat-boxing a shadow puppet theater performance to welcome their new roommate Annie. Meanwhile, Britta and Shirley picked up a hitchhiker named Jesus who was playing a song he wrote called Jesus Loves Marijuana. Back at Annie's old apartment, Pierce was hallucinating that he was playing the piano due to paint fumes. All four musical pieces formed a medley that played over a montage of each scene. The study group later teases Jeff by singing the song to him having seen a video of his performance that the Dean tweeted. It first heard in the Season Three episode "Studies in Modern Movement".

The song and lyrics[]

Original song[]

Lyrics:

There used to be a graying tower alone on the sea.
You became the light on the dark side of me.
Love remained a drug that's the high and not the pill.
But did you know,
That when it snows,
My eyes become large and
The light that you shine can be seen.
Baby,
I compare you to a kiss from a rose on the gray.
Ooh,
The more I get of you,
The stranger it feels, yeah.
And now that your rose is in bloom.
A light hits the gloom on the gray.
There is so much a man can tell you,
So much he can say.
You remain,
My power, my pleasure, my pain, baby
To me you're like a growing addiction that I can't deny.
Won't you tell me is that healthy, baby?
But did you know,
That when it snows,
My eyes become large and the light that you shine can be seen.
Baby,
I compare you to a kiss from a rose on the gray.
Ooh, the more I get of you
The stranger it feels, yeah
Now that your rose is in bloom.
A light hits the gloom on the gray,
I've been kissed by a rose on the gray,
I've been kissed by a rose
I've been kissed by a rose on the gray,
...And if I should fall along the way
I've been kissed by a rose
...been kissed by a rose on the gray.
There is so much a man can tell you,
So much he can say.
You remain
My power, my pleasure, my pain.
To me you're like a growing addiction that I can't deny, yeah
Won't you tell me is that healthy, baby.
But did you know,
That when it snows,
My eyes become large and the light that you shine can be seen.
Baby,
I compare you to a kiss from a rose on the gray.
Ooh, the more I get of you
The stranger it feels, yeah
Now that your rose is in bloom,
A light hits the gloom on the gray.
Yes I compare you to a kiss from a rose on the gray
Ooh, the more I get of you
The stranger it feels, yeah
And now that your rose is in bloom
A light hits the gloom on the gray
Now that your rose is in bloom,
A light hits the gloom on the gray.

Craig Pelton and Jeff Winger duet[]

Lyrics:

Jeff: There used to be a graying tower alone on the sea.
Pelton: You became the light on the dark side of me.
Jeff & Pelton: But did you know ...

The light that you shine can be seen.

... And now that your rose is in bloom.
A light hits the gloom on the gray.

Jesus: Jesus loves marijuana!
Jesus: Jesus loves marijuana!
Britta: Amen!
Jesus: Jesus loves marijuana!
Jesus: ...and drinking human blood!

Jeff & Pelton:...Baby, I compare you to a kiss from a rose on the gray.
Ooh, the more I get of you
The stranger it feels, yeah
Now that your rose is in bloom,
A light hits the gloom on the gray.

Trivia[]

Seal is briefly mentioned in the Season One episode "Football, Feminism and You". Pierce and Dean Pelton are trying to redesign the school mascot to be more politically correct and not have any recognizable racial features including skin color. In order to find a more neutral tone they create a color wheel for that purpose which the Dean later describes to Jeff as going from the color of Seal's skin to the color of his teeth.
