There seems to be a re occurring theme that i first noticed in the second holloween special Season 3 Episode 5. When Troy brings up the holloween party to the group right after the intro. He says " Yeah, I wanna go to the dance. I heard the Dean has free taco meat from the army." This is the second time the army has been mentioned (to my knoledge) the first being the original halloween party in season 2. When the taco meat turned everyone into zombies and the army first showed up.
This got my attention when the army was brought up again in season 3 episode 13 when the dean is reading the bylaws at the begging of the episode when he says. "Wow, did you know Greendale students are technically in the army reserves?"
My theory is that somehow the government. Spicificly the army, has something to do with whats going on at Greendale. Its possible that the students are test subjects to some sort of experiment. Id love to find more evidence of this if possible. Maybe make a seperate forum for this?
Belated Happy New Year's to you! It's time to kick off the new year right with another technical question from me to you. I tried adding a countdown clock to the main page for Community' s premiere on February 7 but it's not functioning right. Another contributor suggested adding this widget here but the code he provided didn't seem to work either. Could you please lend your expertise on this matter?
BTW, I finally got the IDCard template working for the character info boxes. What do you think?
Just wondering if you found anything more on the Countdown clock, It'd be nice to have that somewhere on the main page . Also check out Community Wiki's visitor stats. I know it probably pales in comparison to the more popular Wiki's but that's quite a jump from what I normally see.
I asked a colleague to take a look and I guess he forgot to follow through with you. Apologies... let me test this here:
I recently found a page on the Community Wiki for a minor character that contained paragraphs of inaccurate fantasy and invented character history. It was preceded with a caveat that the character has no properly established background so making up a background involving multiple dimensions is fair game.
I removed the unreferenced work of fiction someone had put on the article, attributing it to a new wiki user just having some fun with the idea of editing pages.
Today I saw that UltimateAtomicBuster has reverted my edit and protected the page!
Recently it's been pointed out by a contributor there were a few issues with how an article looked in Monobook skin. In particular, the slideshow feature doesn't show up at all in Monobook and it's something that's used quite a bit on a few articles here. I attempted to use a code I found at Community Central wiki to fix the problem but it doesn't seem to work. Is there another way to enable the slideshow feature in the other skin?
I copied and pasted the "Arrested Development" Wiki streaming and video section from the main page and edited it for use on the main page of this wiki. However when the pictures of the Hulu Plus and other logos are clicked it links to the photo of the logo and not to the actual site. Also, the galleries I used on the main page are slightly off. It had been working fine and displaying the photos correctly but now for some reason the images are mismatched and not uniform.
I'll leave that stuff to your capable hands, I get a headache just looking at all that code. BTW, it looks like the Arrested Development Wiki main page charcter portal is having the same unifomity problems the Community Wiki is (unless it's just my PC).
Hi, sorry to always bother you with problems but got another one for you. I added a portal template to the front page for the characters section but am having problems linking the pictures to the articles, the link goes to the picture file instead.
Thanks for getting back to me. I was thinking that portal was complex too but I thought that type of code was normal. I'll check out the portal on AD wiki tommorow, I'm on a mobile device and about to go to work so I can't do much right now.
P.S. A while back I had an idea to customize the character boxes after seeing the patient chart ones on the Scrubs Wiki. The boxes would resemble Greendale ID cards like this the one: Greendale student ID card. I created this template here but didn't get far with it as I was unable to properly get the various info in the right position. Any suggestions on this would appreciated.
Whoa, I didn't know you personally made the character clip board box! Those boxes really stand out on the site. Thanks for looking at the ID Card template for me, and for the tip about the portal on the main page.
Content wise it's pretty barren in comparison to this one and seems to have been abandoned as it hasn't been updated since Season Two. Just curious as to how it affects this wiki and wether or not it should be allowed to continue to stay up.
Wikia allows anyone to create a wiki of thier choosing and fully allows duplicates. Usually one wiki stands champion and gains all the readers and editors (which this one is doing).
There has only been one edit on that wiki in the past 30 days and I would agree with you -- content-wise it pales in comparison. Wikia can close and merge wikis -- but that's not really my area. What I'd advise you to do is go through greendale.wikia and see if there's any information you want from that wiki on this one. Then reply here and I'll see if I can get the OK to merge them.
From what I saw most of the written stiuff was cut and pasted from wikipedia. There were a few photos I was going to grab but wasn't sure if it was allowed, you beat me to the punch by grabbing the Duncan one. I'll look at it some more and see what else I can find. BTW, by the same token couldn't whoever's over there or someone else who creates another Community wiki grab all the articles, pages I've created and written and just dump it onto thier site? That'd really suck.
Hey, thanks for dealing with that "contributor" a while back. I could use your assistance on a minor matter if you have the time. I was thinking of using tab view style for the indiviual main character pages similar to how the One Piece wiki has it set up for their main characters. I was experimenting with Jeff but I can't seeem to get it to work as it doesn't seem to show up.
If you are 100% certain that you want to use Tabview, I can help a little. However, I personally do not like using Tabview in such a fashion. MediaWiki has trained people to use the TOC, and others use Ctrl+F to quickly find things. Tabview renders both of these useless.
Thanks for getting back to me. Not 100% certain, I had just wanted to experiment with it a bit since it seemed like an effective way of organizing long pages. I didn't know it messed with other features on the wiki. If that's the case I don't want to waste your time, if you think it's a bad idea I will defer to your judgement.
Tabview can be helpful in many cases, but it is not an effective use of breaking up long articles. I think the best way to split up long articles to to create spin-off articles and provide a teaser summary on the main article page.
For example, on Scrubs we wanted to have an episode-by-episode summary of J.D.'s actions. There are 180 episodes and that would have made his article super-long. Instead, we provided season-by-season summaries and linked to our episode-by-episode summaries. (See it.)
Hmm, that's a good idea. It'd be cool to implement something like that here eventually. It's a shame though, considering the recent news about Community's shortened fourth Season as well as it's move to friday(!) I don't think we'll ever have to we'll to worry about writing up 180 episodes on this wikia.
I actually think this is good news. Having a final season is such a gift -- writers can wrap up storylines and give everyone a sense of closure. I tend to get bored with shows after their fourth season so I'm not too heartbroken that we won't have 180 episodes.
I agree a show should never overstay it's welcome, as a fan of Scrubs too I thought the season 8 finale wrapped the series up beautifully and that Season 9 was really unneccessary. Still, Im holding out hope that Community gets an additional 9 episodes at least for it's final year.
Hi, I could use some technical assistance. I added a slider to the main page and I think that the welcome box would be better above it instead of under it. I'm having some difficulty moving it though as it seems to mess up the code whenever I do. Little help?
Thanks, I appreciate it. As you can see this wiki has grown quite a bit and there are even regular contributors now besides me. I just put in for a wikia spotlight as I believe this one qualifies for it now. BTW I just finishing watch both seasons of Party Down and then cheked to see if there was a wiki for it and saw you already started one. Such a great show, If I wasn't already busy with RL and this wiki I'd work on that wiki too .
It looks good but there is a wierd thing that happens sometimes when I click onto the main page. The twitter box doesn't stay where it's supposed to be and moves around, mostly to the top of the page for some reason. It could be just my Internet Explorer browser though since it appears just fine when I'm using Firefox.
I take it that the twitter box is acting up because of the slider being added. If the twitter box can't be fixed and it's a choice between the two I'd have to pick the slider and lose the twitter feed.
