|The study table is where the study group convened in Group Study Room F. It had eight chairs and provided an area for the group's daily meetings and study sessions. The seating arrangement was as follows: Jeff sat at the head of the table, to his right was where Britta and Abed sit, opposite Jeff at the other end was Pierce and Troy, to their right was seated Shirley and Annie. There was on unoccupied chair to Jeff's left which was where invited guests to the group's study session sat. Although it's referred to as a single table, it was actually made up of two smaller tables pushed together. Its first appearance was in the Pilot and its last appearance was in the Season Five episode "Repilot".|
|At the start of the 2009 Fall semester at Greendale, the study group first gathers around the table after being invited to Jeff's fake Spanish study group ("Pilot"). When Jeff tells Buddy the study group doesn't want him to join them he refuses to leave the table. Jeff is then forced to pull a hysterical Buddy off of the table and throw him out of the room ("Investigative Journalism"). After Jeff and Britta interfere with Annie's love life, an argument breaks out amongst the study group members about their own interpersonal dynamic. Jeff explains that even though they are like family they are not really related which could lead to some complications. Various glances and looks are exchanged across the table as the study group members consider each other as potential romantic prospects ("Romantic Expressionism").
|When Shirley and Annie investigate an April Fool's prank, Annie slams Jeff's head into the table believing he had something to do with it ("The Science of Illusion"). After enrolling in billiards, Jeff poses on the study table to show off a special outfit he wore for the class to the rest of the group. He accidentally knocks over a bag of bagels which reveals that Britta is unaware that she pronounces the name of the bread product wrong ("Physical Education"). During the Paintball Assassin game, Jeff and Britta consummate their relationship on top of the table ("Modern Warfare"). At the end of the school year, Abed tries to figure out the perfect farewell to the study room and table. He ends up doing an homage to the final episode of "Cheers" ("Pascal's Triangle Revisited").
|In the study group's second year, the two tables are flipped over and used as cover while the group strip to their underwear to find Annie's pen ("Cooperative Calligraphy"). It's shown that various study group members carve notches into the table. Abed marks whenever Jeff says a "Classic Winger" response, Jeff makes a notch whenever someone mentions his abs, and Troy makes a notch randomly for no real reason ("Intro to Political Science"). For their last Anthropology project, the study group is working on a large scale diorama modelled after the study room on top of the study table ("Paradigms of Human Memory"). At the end of the school year, the study group puts the table back together after the a Paintball battle with City College is resolved ("For A Few Paintballs More").
|In "Biology 101", Pierce returns to the study group describing the study table as "magic". In the same episode, Jeff hallucinates that the study table is the Monolith from "2001: A Space Odyssey" after being sprayed with monkey gas in the school's air vents. Later, still under the influence of the gas, he takes a fire ax to the table and tries to destroy it.
|In the Study group's fourth year at Greendale, Jeff has a lot of anxiety over the semester due to his graduating early and returning to his former life as a lawyer. He decides to try and create a reason for him to stay by manipulating Abed. Jeff tosses a Yahtzee die hoping it will cause Abed to regress into obsessing over The Darkest Timeline again. The die lands in between the cracks of the study table without a conclusive number showing. ("Advanced Introduction to Finality").
|Several months after the study group graduated and left Greendale, they have an unexpected reunion at school. Due to Jeff's manipulations they become depressed at how unsuccessful they've become since graduating. After they all sign a class action lawsuit against Greendale for ruining their lives, Abed suggests to the group that they burn the study table. He explains that he'd rather see it destroyed then be used by anyone else. The group agrees and takes the table outside where they douse it with lighter fluid. Right before lighting the match, Jeff has a change of heart about the lawsuit and stops the group. He burns the documents they signed and throws them on the ground. Unfortunately he failed to see the trail of lighter fluid and the study table is set ablaze. Afterwards, the group builds a new study table in shop class ("Repilot"). Later, Abed varnishes the table and engraves it with the name "Table Mk II" ("Introduction to Teaching").
Appearances on the showEdit
The study table had been featured in nearly every episode on "Community" prior to its destruction in the Season Five episode "Repilot". The few exceptions include the Season Three episodes "Remedial Chaos Theory and "Studies in Modern Movement".
